This is really awesome!

When I was 18, I went to London for summer English studies. One day, a gentleman expressed his feelings to me, wishing a rendez-vous with me. He said that I looked really awesome. Not understanding this, I looked it up in an English-Czech dictionary at the nearest occasion.

How puzzled I was to read as translation "nahánějící hrůzu". Luckily, I understood anyway that he meant he was feeling certainly well in my company.

So please, don´t trust your English-Czech dictionaries (that much). Words and expressions can really mean different things in different contexts!

We really need to study not individual, separate words but rather words-in-situations and we need to hear lots of examples. Good luck!

P.S. So how is it with "awesome"? Watch Scott Thornbury´s explanation.
